Wood glues can affect the wood as it is being assembled, and being prepared in advance will eliminate costly joint failures and frustrating disassembly. The discussion will focus on the steps to use wood glues with ease, what to watch out for when the glue hits the wood, and why failures occur. We will also cover FAQs and why there are so many different wood glues. Bring your questions as this is a discussion, not just a presentation.

Dan will discuss how wide, thick, and tall they should be, the best ways to glue them, what the ideal gap size between the tenon and mortise is, and whether the species makes a difference. These suggestions will be backed up by tests. Dan will even break some wood during the presentation, so the attendees can see the failures in action!

David Johnson is bringing a fresh take on the No Nails Danish Cord technique — and he’s ready to share it with the world. Since publishing his article on the subject, David has developed a method that’s stronger, more secure, and effective on larger chairs, all while maintaining the same classic look. It’s more challenging to execute, but far more versatile. One small caveat: there are a couple of nails involved.
